SB 287 (Calderon) Meal Period Reform

SB 287 will provide clarity and guidance for compliance with and enforcement of meal-period laws and regulations. It offers a comprehensive solution that will serve employers and employees across all industries regardless of the size or union status of an employer’s workforce. It does so by clarifying an employer’s obligation to provide meal breaks and the ability to enter into agreements for on-duty meal periods in appropriate situations, and authorizes labor and management to negotiate for meal period provisions in collective bargaining agreements.
