SB 1231 – Supply Chain Labor

SB 1231 would require entities that contract with the state to certify that slave labor was not utilized in “all raw materials in the supply chain used to produce or manufacture the goods procured.”

Additionally, the bill requires similar certification for building materials costing more than $20,000 for public works projects. Although the goals of the sponsors are well-intended, this legislation places on California employers some expectations that may be infeasible to comply with.
