Setting a limit, or cap, on the amount of carbon dioxide emissions that businesses can emit will have devastating effects. Businesses will be forced to purchase emissions permits, which will only drive up their costs. Many will be forced to pass these costs onto their customers. Given the current economic downturn, this is not the time to place more regulations on businesses. This legislation will force businesses to downsize, putting more Americans out of work and in the unemployment line. Everyone will be negatively affected by this “cap and trade” legislation by taxing nearly everything related to energy consumption. Middle and low-income households will be hit the hardest because they spend more of their paychecks on gas and home heating. The cost of doing business is already high enough. Please don’t make it worse by over-taxing and over-regulating American businesses. I urge you to OPPOSE the American Clean Energy and Security Act.
